Rainy days

The past 2 days have been rainy. There are only so many things you can do to keep 3 kids under 5 occupied on the inside during a rainy day. Yesterday we ran errands, cleaned the house, did puzzles, and wrote stories. Today we were getting a little antsy. We ventured out to the library for the morning. We left armed with 5 books each because they are 5 years old. Our rationale of age equals number of things you can have or eat (cookies/candy) or minutes you can stay out to play used to work really well when they were 2. For example, "How many cookies or pieces of candy can I have? - 2 because you are 2 years old." Now that we are 5 (and a half as Connor often points out) I can't in good conscience allow 5 (and a half) cookies just because they are 5, but luckily it still works at the library! :)
So then after lunch and reading our books we got a little bored again. They love to cook and bake so I raided the pantry. Nothing for making cookies, brownies, or muffins . . . but tucked way back in the corner of a shelf sat the answer to a quiet afternoon on a rainy day - Chocolate cake! Maybe rainy days aren't so bad after all! Yummy!
